Network Accounts Not Available After Security Update 2008-006 Mac OSX Server

September 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

After installing the Mac OS X Server Security Update 2008-06 on a PPC Xserve running Tiger Server 10.4.11, I had a Tiger 10.4.11 client that would not recognize network accounts. After checking the physical network connections, everything was fine. The problem was that the binding to the Open Directory server got corrupted somehow. I had to unbind the client using the Directory Access utility and then remove the computer account from the Open Ditectory Master Server with Workgroup Manager. I then just had to rebind the client and the network accounts where available again. I tried rebinding without deleting the computer account on the sever, but that didn’t help, it even asked if I wanted to “Replace the existing computer account”. This was also a good time to remove old computer accounts on the server.
