Finally, Entourage will be replaced with a bona fide version of Outlook. Microsoft is also reporting that Outlook for Mac withh have a completely redesigned database that will be compatible with Spotlight and Time machine.

“Because it’s designed for the Mac, it will be different from Outlook for Windows,” Mac BU general manager Eric Wilfrid said. “But it will be fully compatible. For instance, Outlook for Mac will support Information Rights Management, which controls access to sensitive documents.”

Do you have a second computer, Mac or PC, with a good display that you wish you could use as another display on your Mac? I have an old Flat Panel iMac that has a fantastic display but there is no way to access the display to use it with the extended display feature of my MacBook Pro.

I found a great program that allows you to do just that. It’s called ScreenRecyler. Use your old iMac as a second screen for your new iMac as pictured. You can even use an old Windows PC. It’s easy to setup and is surprisingly fast. Try it out!

Requirements: Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 on the ScreenRecycler computer.

Ever tried to remember the exact filename for something that you saved last month or the subject of an email you sent three months ago. If you’re like me, I’ve got other things to do that remember details like that. Spotlight in Leopard is not picky and will take any info you give it to help you find what you are looking for.

For example, if you know the file was created in a certain time period you can enter the date range into Spotlight search box like this: date:3/15/09-3/31/09. Other tags that can be used are basically any of the categories that are available to Spotlight from the Spotlight preferences pane, like message, contact, image, music, movie, font, etc.

So if you knew a word in the subject of an email you wanted to find, you could enter, kind:message subject:invoice #3452. Using the tag limits the results to a category and you see more possible matches. By default Spotlight shows all category results and it can get too crowded in the drop down list, and the Show All option can give too many results. So start using tags and see if you get close enough for Spotlight to figure out what you are looking for.
